Capcom had a surprise to announce at San Diego Comic-Con and it turns out it is the return of Strider. After being rumored for a while, Strider is finally official and a new downloadable game developed by Double Helix, the folks that are also making the Killer Instinct reboot, for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and PC. Strider-Hiryu, who was last seen as a playable fighter in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, is back in his own game in an assassination mission to take out Grand Master Meio.
The new Strider is a "Metroidvania" game with an open world to explore and classic 2D gameplay with an upgrade system. The original developers of the first two games back on the NES and Genesis are also back to work with Double Helix on this new entry as well. Hiryu's signature abilities from the original games and the "Versus" fighting games have returned and looking as good as they were before. Of the platforms listed, there is actually no Wii U version at this time, but assuming that DuckTales Remastered is coming to Nintendo's system next month, I won't be surprised if Double Helix ends up working on one.
Strider comes out on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC early next year.
