The Strain, a new drama set to air on FX, is gaining more cast members, and has found its female star, set to play opposite Corey Stoll. Mia Maestro has been cast in the female role in the new project from filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. Previously, Maestro had been seen in the Twilight film Breaking Dawn, while Corey Stoll was recently seen on the show House of Cards after starting his career on Law and Order. This will also mark Maestro's return to TV after appearing on Alias. It looks as if The Strain will be picked up for a 13 episode season, with Del Toro directing the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, who also co-authored the books with him. Carlton Cuse, who helped develop the adaptation, will serve as one of the show's executive producers.
The show is an adaptation of a vampire trilogy, written by Del Toro, that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He is in charge of a team investigating a dangerous viral outbreak with hints of an ancient and deadly strain of vampirism. Dr. Nora Martinez (Maestro) works closely with Ephraim and ends up having an affair with him. She is a biochemist, known for caring more about people than the diseases that threaten them. Soon, she will be forced to take on a new identity and become a ruthless warrior in order to stop the virus from spreading. Coming from Guillermo Del Toro, a brilliant filmmaker known for Pan's Labyrinth, and Carlton Cuse, a Lost producer, this will certainly be an exciting thriller to watch for when it airs next year.
