Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is going to be release this summer for PC and PlayStation 3, developer Square-Enix has confirmed.
The relaunched MMO is set to enter a third round of closed beta testing in June, which will include PS3 players for the first time. I played the most recent beta and you can see my thoughts here
The game's cross-platform functionality will allow players on both formats to explore the game's world together whilst two new city states, Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, will also be opened up to players.
Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida explained that the game's rebirth as A Realm Reborn was necessary to help strengthen gamers trust in the Final Fantasy brand.
"Losing your fans' trust is very easy thing to do. Regaining it is very hard," Yoshida said. "We believe Final Fantasy XIV is a starting point, and that players joining us will think 'oh wow, this is great, I'll see what they can do with Final Fantasy XV or XVI.'
We will have to wait and see if it delivers but I can honestly say the update has definitely helped the game and you can see my opinion on the link above.
