It’s official: Lucasfilm and “The Clone Wars” supervising director Dave Filoni has announced that the television series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” is cancelled and that the fifth season was the final one.
This may seem sad for fans of the show, but here’s where things get weird: there are still more “Clone Wars” episodes floating around out there that nobody has seen. Season 5 trailers included storylines that were pushed back to the nonexistent Season 6, and last summer Filoni hinted that they had already produced more episodes past the Season 5 finale. As he told IGN, “There are more stories to tell, and as I’ve said, we’ve been working on them for a while.”
So where will these episodes go? Obviously there won’t be a Season 6, but that doesn’t mean “The Clone Wars” is down for the count just yet. An announcement released said, “We’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen.” Many speculate that the content will shift to movie-form, and with Disney now in the mix it seems logical.
Filoni is excited for the future of “The Clone Wars.” “The best is yet to come,” he said. “They are the best episodes that my crew has committed to screen.”
