It seems "Arrested Development" may get the shaft yet again. On Monday Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced that the Netflix revival of the show will only last one season. He says the filming of Season 4 happened under “unrepeatable circumstances.”
"'Arrested' is a unique property. We don’t anticipate being able to do Season 5, 6 and 7," Hastings said. "It is really a fantastic one off, which is coming together incredibly. I think it will be amazing for us, but think of it as a non-repeatable amazing."
Another Netflix spokesperson confirmed the announcement, saying "I think we all knew it was lightning in the bottle that we pulled it all together [for these episodes]."
But it may not be over yet. Netflix’s Ted Sarandos has been the captain of the "Arrested Development" project, and he hasn’t given up hope. "If anyone can pull it together, it's going to be Ted. But by no means is this the end of it," the spokesperson said. "We're definitely planning to do more with them. We have first rights, so it's not like you'd see it anywhere else. We're absolutely hopeful there will be more."
If that sounds like a lot of contradiction, you’re right. It all seems incredibly up-in-the-air right now. And now with the "Arrested Development" movie’s status looking grim as well, fans may never get the triumphant comeback they hoped for.
