We first learned of the acquisition in August 2012, and finally tonight, the Canadian hit sci-fi drama Continuum will premiere on Syfy at 8 p.m., ushering in the programming block dubbed “Powerful Mondays” by the channel. The block of original programming also includes Being Human at 9 p.m. and another Canadian import Lost Girl at 10 p.m..
Continuum is a time-travelling police drama starring Rachel Nichols as Kiera Cameron, a cop from the future (2077) who is trapped in present day Vancouver with a group of terrorists from her time period. With the help of teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen) and a local police officer, Kiera will try to thwart the terrorists’ plans while looking for a way back to her husband and son. In a TV landscape where sci-fi drama series are dwindling, Continuum will attempt to tackle grand questions about justice, the future of government in a world of more and more influential corporations, and obviously time-travel paradoxes. The 10-episode first season has already aired on Showcase (where the premiere shattered the channel’s records) and the series has already been renewed for a second season slated to air on Showcase in 2013.
A Stitch in Time, the series premiere of Continuum, will air tonight, January 14, 2013 at 8 p.m. EST on Syfy.
